Discover one of CPHR Alberta's most valuable member benefits

CPHR Alberta’s Mentorship Program has benefited hundreds of our members. A mentorship allows members to learn about the challenges our HR community faces and the unique solutions individuals are finding. These relationships support professional development and career growth and, as a result, raise the standard for human resources.

"...The transparency of the partnership and becoming a dedicated “student” can be incredibly rewarding. The emotional vulnerability you experience strengthens bonds and connections and forces you to prioritize the relationship to keep the momentum at its peak. The result? Sharing best practices is eventually seamless and mutually rewarding!”

—Reena Sharma, Mentorship Program Participant

Mentorship Program Overview

All members of CPHR Alberta are welcome to participate by applying to the Mentorship Program. Participants can meet virtually or in person, depending on what you and your match prefer. Professional mentoring relationships last for six months, with an option to extend to 12 months. Read a detailed overview of the Mentorship Program in the Mentorship Handbook.

If you’re currently in a professional mentoring relationship, you can formalize it by completing a Mentoring Agreement. Once your mentorship is formalized, both individuals will qualify for CPD hours.

We offer four mentorship streams:

The Leadership Mentorship Stream
  • Matches experienced CPHR members with up-and-coming HR leaders. It allows seasoned members to mentor protégés who want to increase their strategic HR knowledge and leadership skills.
The Career Development Stream
  • Matches members with HR experience to rising stars in HR. This stream allows mentors at different stages in their careers to provide guidance and advice to those new to the profession.
Peer to Peer Stream (NEW)
  • Matches two HR professionals of relatively equal experience who would be considered to be peers. This stream provides an opportunity for two people to trade off the mentor and protégé roles, and provide guidance, advice, and knowledge-sharing to each other.
Student Group Mentoring (NEW)
  • If you are a student applying for the program, you now have the opportunity to do group mentoring with your peers. Each student member is assigned to a mentor with up to four proteges in a group, depending on the interest.
