The Mentorship Program is one of our most valuable member benefits, helping hundreds of members grow professionally and personally. By joining, you’ll connect with HR professionals, learn about industry challenges, and find unique solutions. These relationships support your career growth and raise the standard for human resources.


Program Overview

· Open to all CPHR Alberta members.

· Meetings can be virtual or in-person.

· Mentorship relationships last from 2 hours to 6 months depending on the mentorship stream you select. 

· Formalize existing mentoring relationships with a Mentoring Agreement to qualify for CPD hours.

Mentorship Streams

Leadership Mentorship Stream - pairs up and coming HR leaders with senior professionals to support leadership growth, strategic thinking, and career advancement. Through one-to-one mentorship, participants gain senior level insight, build confidence, and prepare for increased responsibility and influence within the profession. 


Up and Coming Leaders are professionals who: 

  • Have several years of experience and a strong foundation in HR 
  • Demonstrate leadership potential and initiative 
  • Are preparing for their first leadership role or broader impact 
  • Seek guidance on leadership style, strategy, and career progression 
  • Mentors are experienced senior leaders who share practical insight, perspective, and guidance to help develop the next generation of HR leaders. 

Career Development Stream - provides members developing in the profession (minimum three years of professional HR experience) with the opportunity to connect on a regular basis with a senior professional for guidance in skill-building, decision-making, and career advancement.


Peer to Peer - connects two individuals at a similar career stage or level supporting each other, sharing experiences and offering mutual guidance. Ideal for members who are looking for a collaborative learning environment and the ability to network with someone at the same level as themselves, career stage or within the same field of HR (i.e. labour relations, compensation and benefits). 


Walk & Talk – a one-time, two-hour meeting (virtual or in person) between a senior HR leader and CPHR Alberta member. This stream is ideal for individuals who are: 

  • looking for insights and guidance on potential career paths 
  • transitioning into the workplace after completing their education 
  • returning after a leave of absence or from working abroad 
  • bring international experience and are looking to connect a mentor with has navigated integration into the Canadian 

Group Mentoring – offers members who are new to mentoring the opportunity to learn alongside peers in a supportive group setting. Each mentor may work with up to four (4) protégés, grouped according to shared interests where possible. This stream helps participants build confidence, gain exposure to mentorship, and prepare for future one-to-one mentoring relationships. 


Situational/Functional – provides members with short-term mentorship focused on a specific HR-related challenge. This stream is ideal for those seeking practical guidance on initiatives such as implementing a total rewards program, designing executive compensation, developing an HR strategy, or managing a project with limited prior experience.

How to Apply

With transitioning to a new mentorship platform within MemberConnect, updates on the new mentorship platform will be communicated to members towards the end of summer, including information on new features within the platform and the application process.
