The Fair and Family-friendly Workplaces Act changes much of the Employment Standards Code. It was the most thorough revision of the Code in over three decades, and resulted in significant additions to job protected leaves, new calculations for banked overtime, and modification to a host of other standards.
Given the far-reaching impact of the legislation, it was no surprise that almost a thousand CPHR Alberta members attended our July 26 webinar. Laura Mensch, Partner at Gowling WLG, provided a thorough analysis of the changes to both the Employment Standards Code and the Labour Code. The Q&A session following her presentation offered a chance to drill down into some specific areas of the legislation.
The webinar is available to view below. Unanswered questions from the webinar will be posted here with replies in the coming weeks, so please check back. If you didn't catch the presentation slides during the webinar, download them here to follow along with the recording. The Gowling WLG team also has insights about the legislation on their site – including a few recommendations HR professionals should act on immediately.
Thank you to Laura and her team at Gowling WLG for offering their expertise on this webinar.
