For many of us, fall is a very busy time – the slow pace of summer really hits you after that first week back at work following Labour Day weekend. The change of season is refreshing, but it’s easy to get wrapped up in just how busy we feel. So, in this busy time, we thought we would help you access tools and resources available through your membership that will help you develop your HR career.
1. Leverage Your Community
Your association is made up of 6,000 HR and business professionals across the province, in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. On a larger scale, your membership is recognized across the country with over 27,000 HR professionals who hold their CPHR Designation. This is your community! It's a powerful network that fosters all kinds of connections – from support to friendship, to business opportunities and professional growth. Join our LinkedIn Group and watch for our Holiday Mingles coming soon!
2. National Marketing Campaign
You may have noticed the ‘This is HR’ campaign we launched with our other provincial jurisdictions. There have been multiple blog posts, videos, digital ads, and one free webinar to-date. We launched this campaign to increase awareness of the value of the CPHR designation to business leaders across the country. We know the value HR brings to a business, let’s make sure businesses know. Your participation in this campaign is key. Spread the word by sharing our campaign with your network and we can grow this profession together.
3. Professional Development
Attending events online or in-person is a valuable way to learn new skills and strategies from experts and your peers through networking. This fall and into winter we have varying sizes and types of events in every chapter, and webinars planned right into December. Check out Learn & Connect for events in your chapter.
4. HR Toolkit
This is a great resource for smaller HR teams, but we encourage HR professionals in larger organizations to look through the contents as well. There are downloads to help you with forecasting, job descriptions, human rights compliance, performance management, and more. Access the HR Toolkit through your Member Profile. Here’s a peek at some of the most downloaded documents:

5. Mentorship Program
This is one of our original and most successful programs. We have about 200 participants per intake, which means there is still plenty of room for more members to join. This is a growth opportunity for mentors and mentees, it’s at the core of what it means to be in this community! We will start recruiting for our next intake of mentors in late November. Learn more about the program here.
6. Benchmarking Tools
Our HR trends report provides metrics you can use to measure the policies and procedures in your organization to what others are doing. It’s a great way to evaluate your methods and processes and make improvements when necessary. Read our reports here.
7. Volunteer Program
Volunteering is a powerful way to be heard in your community. We have eight volunteer committees with varying commitment levels and involvements with the Association. Whether you want to be involved in regulating our designation or being the voice of our community, there are options for you. Learn about our volunteer committees here or get in touch with us today.
8. Awards Program
You know how important recognizing your employees is – let's acknowledge our peers too! Our Awards program recognizes HR professionals who are going above and beyond in their organizations (that’s you!). You must be a member to receive an award, but you don’t need to be a member to nominate. Nominations for the 2020 CPHR Alberta Excellence Awards are open now - nominate someone today.
