CPHR Alberta recognizes that a profession is only as strong as its next generation of leaders and is committed to engaging with post-secondary students and institutions to build awareness of HR and invest in Canada’s future HR professionals.
SAIT was approved for accreditation after providing detailed evidence to CPHR Alberta that their Bachelor of Business Administration program with a major in HR Management teaches at least 80% of the CPHR Competency Framework and therefore qualifies as a replacement for writing the NKE. The accreditation agreement, signed by both SAIT and CPHR Alberta, means all students who graduate from the Program between 2018 and 2021 and who achieve an overall cumulative average of B- or 2.7 Credential GPA in the Program will be eligible to waive the National Knowledge Exam (NKE).
Mount Royal University and MacEwan University also have accredited programs.
The accreditation program is a significant step forward for the HR profession. It ensures that accredited post-secondary institutions are teaching the knowledge needed for students to become future CPHRs. This program also gives CPHR Alberta the opportunity to officially recognize the knowledge that students gain from participating in post-secondary programs focused directly on the HR field.
All CPHR Canada member provinces use this accreditation program and therefore any post-secondary institution that is accredited by any member association is recognized by other member associations. Graduates from these programs can waive the NKE in any member province. This helps to create further cohesion of the CPHR designation across Canada.
